Introduction to Study:
This site and research study will explore the origins of Hip-Hop culture in American and hopes to document and explain the popular culture movement from conception to modern, mainstream culture.
Background:
Hip-hop first emerged in the early 1970's in America as an expressionist outlet by and for African-American and Latino youth. Initially focusing on civil rights and social injustices in America, hip-hop has now grown into a phenomenon all it's own that has become mainstream culture that resonates and affects all, not just the minorities it was initially created for.
